What areas of my child's learning are the most important?

Some programs may emphasize certain aspects of your child's development, occasionally at the expense of other areas. At Spectrum of Hope, we use a macro approach that considers all aspects of a child's development as equally important. Language development almost always is a primary concern of children diagnosed with autism (it is in fact a defining feature of the disorder), but language is only a subset of the overall goals for a child to reach his or her maximum potential. All aspects of living a fruitful, rewarding life are important, including social interaction, creativity, play, independence skills, etc. ABA is often seen by those who are relatively uninformed as simply a way to teach language. Nothing could be further from the truth. We consider all areas equally important, and will work with you to develop goals for each of them.
