Our Licensed Clinical Psychologists offer Diagnostic Evaluations* to assist parents in obtaining an accurate diagnosis for their child utilizing a variety of methods.

Behavior Assessments*

Problem behavior in the form of aggression, self-injury, property destruction, disruption, and stereotypy can be difficult to manage. It places stress on family, classmates, and others. Our Board Certified Behavior Analysts conduct behavior assessments to determine the reason for a child’s problem behavior and then develop a Behavior Intervention Plan.

Skill Assessments / IEP Planning / ARD Meetings*

We offer a variety of skill assessments to determine your child’s skill level and direction for current and future treatment plans. Our staff conducts Brigance Inventory of Early Development, Brigance Comprehensive Inventory of Basic Skills, Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills – Revised Edition (ABLLS-R), and Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP).

Using these assessments, we identify your child’s unique needs and then develop a treatment plan that is tailored specifically to his or her skill level. Furthermore, we can develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for your child’s school district. In addition, our consultants can attend Admission / Review / Dismissal (ARD) meetings to present our assessment results and IEP goals.

Our staff reviews the diagnostic evaluation and assessments with the parents. We listen to their desired goals for their child; and then as a team, we determine the best Placement to achieve progress and success for the child.

Placement options through our clinic are In Home, Day Treatment, Hope Extended, and Adolescent programs.

Our In Home program is designed for children over 15 months of age who require fewer hours of treatment than the hours offered in our clinical programs. Treatment is provided on an individualized basis to meet your child’s specific needs. In Home treatment is available for on-going ABA therapy, or it can be used to teach / reduce a particular behavior over a short period of time (i.e. potty-training or problem behavior). In Home services include:

Our Day Treatment program provides one to one therapy for children ages 15 months to 11 years. It is designed to improve verbal and nonverbal communication and language skills, gross and fine motor skills, independence skills, individual instruction and social interaction. We can focus on specific areas of behavior as directed by parents to meet their goals for their child.

Full-time (30+ hours per week – Monday - Friday) and Part-time (15 - 20 hours per week – Monday - Friday) includes:

Hope Extended is our "classroom" program designed for children between the ages of 4 and 11 years. The goals and specific placement for the child are determined by assessments, existing IEP goals, and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. This program offers children group experiences that enable them to master their individualized programs while aquiring group skills and increasing socialization.

Hope Extended includes:

Hope Academy was piloted in our Hope Extended program in May 2011 and has been a tremendous success for
our clients and staff. It is the “next” step for children preparing to enter into a typical classroom (ages 4-7) and focuses on academics as well as social skills and functional communication in a larger ratio. New applications are now being accepted for this program!

Certified Elementary School Teachers and Board Certified Behavior Analysts direct and supervise the classrooms in conjunction with a highly trained staff. Group instruction topics have been selected and modified so as to apply to all the children participating, while still taking their individual skills and abilities into consideration. Academic curriculums are based on the TEKS and curriculums such as Math-U-See, Headsprout, and Handwriting Without Tears assist in developing goals for the children. The larger ratios require children to initiate and maintain interactions without continual therapist prompting and guidance.

In addition to teaching the children to attend and respond to one lead teacher in increasing ratio sizes and less restrictive environments, they will also be working on learning classroom readiness skills seen in typical classrooms. These skills include raising their hands appropriately, waiting their turns, being the teacher’s helper, working independently, staying on task, group testing, responding to and learning from their peers.

Finally, all children participating in the program will continue to receive intensive therapy on their individual goals during pull-out sessions with one of the shadowing therapists every day.

We developed a new Adolescent program for children ages 11 to 18 years of age. This new treatment service is one of a kind in the Houston area and targets the needs of adolescents and young adults. We will review applications for our Adolescent program in January 2012.

Our Adolescent program improves functional communication skills using iPad, iTouch, or other augmentative communication device, independence, group, leisure, and adaptive motor skills. Our Adolescent program offers:

Handwriting Without Tears

We are implementing curriculum with all of our clients to improve pre-requisite skills that are necessary life and daily living skills.

Handwriting without Tears develops fine motor movement and letter formation so that our clients will eventually be able to write or with some clients they use this skill as a functional communication tool. HeadSprout is a computer based reading program that helps our clients to recognize letters and how understand how to read words, phrases, sentences and passages so that they will be able to understand written language in their daily environments.

Handwriting Without Tears is a program designed to teach children how to correctly, appropriately, and independently form letters with the eventual goal of fluid, functional, and legible handwriting. This curriculum was developed by two Occupational Therapists with an emphasis on developmental progression of handwriting and fine motor skills. Handwriting Without Tears uses the top-to-bottom, left-to-right approach which helps clients learn to form letters and numbers properly in order to increase their ability to use handwriting in a functional manner.

HeadSprout is a computer based reading program that takes clients from sound recognition up to reading books and eventually through reading comprehension skills. Each client is initially assessed to determine the current reading level; they then begin the program in the appropriate section (Early Reading or Reading Comprehension). As each client masters a section, they are moved onto the next section until they have mastered the entire program. Supplemental readers are used to assess the client’s reading progress throughout the program, as well as to provide practice materials to parents.

Math-U-See is a structured and cumulative math curriculum that involves teaching specific skills using a multitude of materials and processes. Math-U-See breaks down concepts into specific skills that build as the student progresses. The skills are taught in a specific sequence to make sure a strong foundation in the basic set of skills is acquired. Math-U-See has many levels (Primer up through Calculus) that are individualized for each client based on assessments.

For Educators
For Health Specialists

We design and set up Autism classrooms and/or programs for public school districts or private educational settings with special needs students. We teach educators how to:

set individual developmental and educational goals,
increase the social skills of their students,
increase student communication skills,
increase student independence skills,
create behavior intervention programs to decrease problem behaviors in their students.

We also provide:

on-going evaluation of the classroom program and student skills and progress,
assessments and evaluations of student skills and behavior, and
staff development and training on specific topics related to serving a special needs population.

We offer training and consulting services to Speech, Physical, and Occupational Therapists who work with children that have behavior disorders, delays, and syndromes. We teach these professionals how to reduce behaviors that interfere with their services, thereby increasing the effectiveness of their services provided to the child. Our training qualifies towards continuing education credits required to maintain their certifications.
